Commercial operation of Aromatics Oman project in December 2009

Aromatics Oman’s project at Sohar Industrial Port is currently under commissioning, and all phases are expected to be completed for commercial operation by December 2009. The project contractor is GSE&C and Axens is the technology provider at the plant planned with capacity to produce 819,000 tons of paraxylene and 198,000 tons of benzene along with Liquefied Petroleum Gas, Light Naphtha, Raffinates and Heavy Aromatics. Aromatics Oman is a 70:20:10 venture between Oman Oil Company, Oman Refineries & Petrochemicals Co and LGI of Korea. About 28% of the main feedstock-naphtha, will be supplied by Omani Refineries & Petrochemicals Co and the balance will be from overseas producers cent of this feedstock while the rest will be imported.
