Controlled burning of propane and propylene at Praxair

01-Jun-06
Controlled burning of propane and propylene that remained in seven fire-damaged tanks caused a fire to burned this afternoon at the Praxair Distribution Inc. plant in St. Louis. The fire comes after a gap of 11 months, when a series of explosions and fire ripped through the facility on June 24, 2005. Each of the seven tanks was affected by the fire, and if when put on the truck they collided, it could be dangerous. Hence the easier and safer decision was made to take the gas out. The seven tanks are the only ones on the site that need to be flared. Other empty tanks at the site will be moved off by the end of the week.
