The Dow Chemical Company recently announced US$0.07/lb. price increase across North and Latin America for all polycarbonates, polycarbonate compounds and polycarbonate blends, effective May 1, 2009, or as contract terms allow. The increase is due to constant decline in polycarbonate prices and increase in raw material, energy costs. Dow brands affected by the price increase include CALIBRE™ Polycarbonate Resins and EMERGE™ Advanced Resins.
"Looking at the consistent price decline over the last 6 months in polycarbonate with benzene's 60% run-up since January 2009 and propylene's 35% increase year-to-date, it is important and necessary that we take pricing action to restore margins despite the uncertainty and weakness in many of our polycarbonate end-use markets", said Glenn Wright, Commercial Vice President for Dow's Basic Plastics business in North America.
