Dow Coatings, part of the Advanced Materials Division of The Dow Chemical Company and the premier supplier of paint and coatings solutions, has unveiled a new environmentally advanced, high performance elastomeric wall coating for the Asia-Pacfic region - Elastene™ 2468. According to the company, this 100% acrylic polymer, used on exterior walls, is free of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) and does not have added formaldehyde or formaldehyde generators, providing a sustainable solution for elastomeric wall coatings. The company says that its new innovative UV cross-linking technology in Elastene™ 2468 gives formulated coatings an outstanding balance of mechanical properties (elongation and tensile strength) for recoating the devastating cracks occurring in cementitious exterior wall due to weather changes.
The cracks are not only impossible to recoat with ordinary coatings but, over time, the cracking will worsen, allowing water penetration and infiltration of carbon dioxide. This can lead to severe corrosion, and, potentially, major damage to interior walls. This enables coatings to maintain flexibility at low temperatures and allows for extended coverage time, eliminating existing cracks and preventing new cracks from appearing on exterior walls.
