The Dow Chemical Company plans to permanently stop production at its 130 million lbs pa Train I toluene diisocyanate (TDI) production line at Texas Operations in Freeport, Texas.
The train was idled in December 2001 due to weak demand and abundant market supply for TDI at the time. A significant investment is required to return production levels to pre-idling levels, which is not economically viable long-term. Another problem is the volatility of feedstock prices, despite some recovery in raw material and energy costs since Q3-2005.
