Earthquake in Taiwan triggers fire in petrochem plants

An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale, that struck Taiwan at 8:26 pm (1226 am GMT), has triggered three fires in a petrochemical plant. In Kaoshiung, south Taiwan, the quake triggered three fires at the Talin Petrochemical Plant. The epicenter of the earthquake was 22.8 km off Henghcun on Taiwan's southern tip, 22 km under the sea. A strong aftershock occurred a few minutes after that. An earthquake of the magnitude of 8.1 near Japan is likely to cause a tsunami. This massive earthquake has struck near the Russia's Kuril islands in the northern Pacific Ocean.
