The European Commission has cleared Basell Polyolefine GmbH (a unit of US based Access Industries) acquisition of Muenchsmuenster cracker, a German petrochemicals plant. The European Commission has concluded that even though both companies produce ethylene, their combined market shares were limited and the combined company would continue to face several effective competitors.
Basell's first plant at Muenchsmuenster was damaged by an explosion and fire in December 2005.
