Seibu Oil Co. Ltd., a Showa Shell Sekiyu KK group refiner, plans to construct a 25,000 bpd heavy naphtha reformer at its plant in Yamaguchi, Japan, at an investment outlay of about 20 billion yen (US$170 million). Operations at the new unit are projected to commence at the end of 2009. The new unit, called the continuous catalyst regeneration (CCR) platformer, will replace the 19,000-bpd secondary unit at the plant currently in operations.
The existing facility will not be torn down and will work as a back-up facility for the new unit in case of shutdowns. The new unit will raise the annual output of mixed xylene by 90,000 tpa to 210,000 tpa.
