Repsol YPF has declared a force majeure (FM) on 24 October 2008 for ethylene (C2), propylene (C3) and butadiene (BU) from its 600,000 tpa cracker at Sines site in Portugal. Technical problems have forced the shutdown, and the plant is expected to be repaired in about three weeks. Production at the 275,000 tpa LDPE, HDPE production facilities that rely on the cracker for feedstock, will not be affected as supply will be met through inventories.
