French plastics packaging and film industry records 2.4% increase in salesin 2006

14-Mar-07
CSEMP, the French plastics packaging and film industries trade association has announced an increase of 2.4% in sales in 2006 to €5.375 bln as well as volume growth at 2.6% to 2.047 mln tons in 2006. Food packaging grew by 4.9% and cosmetics and perfume packaging at 11%. Despite overall growth, plastic film continued to decline with a 4.5% dip due to unhealthy sales in retail shopping bags and expanded polystyrene. Profit margins continue to decline, as producers are faced with a situation where it is not possible to pass on raw material, energy and transport cost increases- thus jeopardising the industry's future. Efforts are underway to redress the situation by striving for faster response time and development of innovative technologies, sustainable development and consolidation among the small and medium sized companies across Europe.
