New thermoplastic polyurethane compounds based on renewable sources

20-Oct-08
PolyOne Corporation, have unveiled its OnFlexTM BIO Series soft thermoplastic polyurethane (TPE-U) compounds which are made from renewable natural sources and are based on at least 20% renewable material as certified by ASTM-D6866. The renewable material utilizes Merquinsa's patent-pending Pearlthane® ECO TPU technology and provides molders with two new OnFlex BIO Series product families, OnFlex BIO 5100 and OnFlex BIO 5300, to meet global market needs for sustainable and environmentally-friendly products. These compounds are formulated to provide matte surface finish, rubber-like feel and soft touch, excellent mechanical properties and abrasion resistance and fast cycle time. Further, OnFlexTM BIO Series compounds are based in part on renewable natural sources and are 100% recyclable. OnFlex BIO Series exhibits similar properties when compared to conventional TPE-U's of the same hardness, while processability for injection molding has been proven equal or slightly better in terms of cycle time.
