UK-based recycling company, AWS Eco Plastics has opened Europe's largest reprocessing centre at its Hemswell plant for plastics recycling capable of handling 2 bln plastics bottles and containers pa. This increases the company's plastics recycling capacity by four times to 100,000 tpa. The reprocessing center is able to separate and process mixed plastics which previously had been baled and sent abroad for reprocessing or to landfill sites. This upgradation makes Britain to fill the gap between itself and its European counterparts in terms of plastics recycling.
The company, which aims to be the leading provider of food grade recycled plastics in UK, intends to source plastics waste from local councils, supermarkets and other users and recycle it into flakes of the highest quality for use in general manufacturing and plastic bags. AWS has plans to install a new processing line which will enable it to sort and process recycled plastics to the standard required by the food industry.
