Indian Oil Corporation is to launch its PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) plant located at Panipat refinery in the last week of April. 10,000 mt of paraxylene required as feedstock for the project is to be imported by IOC, as commissioning of its Rs 5,300 crore paraxylene plant at Panipat has been delayed for some technical reasons.
IOC plans to start production of naphtha at Panipat complex. IOC plans to manufacture paraxylene from naphtha and convert it into PTA. Upon commissioning, the PTA plant will be the largest unit in India with a capacity of 5,53,000 tpa. The aromatics production will also comprise 357,000 tpa paraxylene (PX) and 21,000 tpa of benzene.
