Indonesia to face ethylene shortage next decade

15-Dec-05
Indonesia's consumption of ethylene will rise to 2.15 million tons in 2011 while supplying capacity of the existing producer is only 800,000 tons. This is expected to lead to a shortage of basic material supply especially ethylene in 2011. The country will have to mull new petrochemical projects with an annual capacity of around 1 million tons to meet domestic demand and cater to this expected shortfall. Currently, PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Center is Indonesia's only company producing ethylene.
