Ineos staff at Grangemouth warned of closure of one of its plants

03-Oct-08
The 1350 strong staff at Ineos' Grangemouth facility has been warned of closure of one of its petrochemical plants, as the company has launched a formal consultation on the future of the G4 ethylene plant. Ineos currently operates the crude oil refinery and several other petrochemical plants at Grangemouth. Several options are being weighed, and the staff affected by any potential closure could be redeployed. Among the options under consideration would be the closure of the 40-year-old G4 plant in H2-2009. Since acquiring Grangemouth, Ineos has invested £400 mln in the refurbishment of existing plants and technology. It is investing £86 mln in its KG ethylene plant at the site, which would enable it to process a wider range of materials, indicating a determination to modernise the site and ensure it played a pivotal role in the future of the Scottish economy.
