US-headquartered INVISTA, one of the world's largest integrated fibers and polymers businesses, have set its new airbag fiber manufacturing plant in Qingpu District, Shanghai underway. The new US$50 mln 'largest of its kind manufacturing facility' in China, specializes in producing high-quality, high-tenacity nylon 6,6 fiber with major applications in safety airbags for the automotive industry. With the Chinese facility going into operation, INVISTA is now the only international company that has wholly-owned airbag fiber capacity on three major continents: Europe, North America and Asia. In China, the company has wholly-owned manufacturing sites in Foshan, Guangdong province, Qingpu, Shanghai and Lianyungang, Jiangsu province producing spandex and nylon fibers.
