Rompetrol Petrochemicals to curtail polymer production by 55%

29-Nov-08
Rompetrol Petrochemicals, the petrochemicals division of Netherlands' Rompetrol Group, has announced 55% curtailment in its polymers production between December 2008 and January 2009 due to influences of the global economic crisis. Citing this as a provisional measure, the company will close down its LDPE sites between from Dec 10, 2008 to Jan 31, 2009 and HDPE sites from Dec 1, 2008 to Jan 31, 2009. As per the company release, the decision is also attributable to the global reductions in prices for HDPE, LDPE and PP during Aug - Nov 2008 period. Also, 24% of the total employees will see provisional unemployment for the stipulated period. Nevertheless, Rompetrol Petrochemicals shall continue the development of its investment plans, the primary objective being the restarting of the pyrolysis installation that will ensure the raw matter necessary for the installations of LDPE and HDPE.
