IPEX unveils advanced PVCO pressure pipes for potable water, sewer systems

20-Apr-09
IPEX, a leading North American manufacturer of thermoplastic piping systems for diverse markets, recently launched Bionax(TM) PVCO Pressure Pipe following a multi-million dollar investment in advanced extrusion technology. Bionax PVCO pipe is suitable for buried potable water mains, irrigation and sewage applications. Using a revolutionary new production process, PVC is molecularly modified under precisely controlled stress and temperature conditions to form a new material - Biaxially Oriented PVC (PVCO). The remarkable process transforms PVC in to a "super material" with almost double the tensile strength, three times the toughness of the starting stock and exhibits dramatically increased fatigue resistance and ductility. According to independent studies, Bionax pipe has less "embodied energy" thereby reducing the carbon footprint, than other common piping materials. Once installed, it's larger inside diameters and smooth surface reduce the energy (and costs) associated with pumping.
