For the first time since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, the State Company for Petrochemical Industries has boosted output to 10,000 tons in nearly seven months. The hike in the company's output can be attributed to the steady supply of power and gas in the same period.
In the 1970s, Iraq had constructed several petrochemical companies as part of its plans to become one of the largest producers of petrochemicals in the world. But wars and U.N. trade sanctions have mired the attempt.
