Several crackers that had been shutdown for regular maintenance came back on-line in Japan this month, triggering a rise in demand for naphtha for ethylene production. This has caused Japan's October naphtha imports for ethylene production to surge to 1.459 million metric tons, almost 28% from September. Last month saw a decline in naphtha imports, reflected in the fall in value of imports by 8.2% to US$593.40/ton, reflecting continued weak naphtha prices in Asia.
