With effect from August 2009, LyondellBasell plans to permanently shut its subsidiary Equistar Chemicals’ Chocolate Bayou complex.
With the slump in global petrochemical demand at the end of last year, a temporary shutdown was announced at the site. However, as demand continued to deteriorate, the plant has not yet been brought back on stream, and was shut indefinitely in January. The following month, 220 employees were cut.
