Italian company Mossi & Ghisolfi's (M&G) has completed construction of its new US$325 mln polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin plant in Brazil's Pernambuco state. The plant that took 22 months to build is to have production capacity of 450,000 tpa of PET. The new facility is located on an 850,000 sq m site and the plant itself covers more than 46,000 sq m. It is the world's biggest PET plant making resin from a single reactor, producing 25% more than the Altamira plant in Mexico, which until now was the largest. The unit will commence test operations probably lasting until the end of January.
The plant will supply to the local market and to export the surplus volumes [of PET] first to Latin America and then to North America and Europe.
