Mitsubishi awarded PTA plant contract from Polish Oil refining and petrochemical major

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. has received an order for a large-scale purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant from Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN S.A. (PKN ORLEN), Poland's largest oil refining and petrochemical company. The new plant will employ Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's proprietary processing method for PTA production. In addition to supplying the major equipment, MHI will provide detailed engineering, equipment procurement and on-site supervision of installation. This will be Poland's first PTA plant. The plant, with a capacity to produce 600,000 tpa of PTA, is slated to go on-stream in October 2010. The contract is worth approximately 50 billion yen.
