Mitsubishi Chemical to increase production of PC resin

11-Apr-06
As demand for auto interior and electronic parts in Asia grows, demand for polycarbonate is booming. Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. will increase its output capacity of polycarbonate resin in Fukuoka Prefecture in response to growing demand in Asia by building a new manufacturing facility, at an investment of about 25 billion yen and doubling the current production capacity of its Kurosaki establishment in Kitakyushu to 80,000 tpa. The new facility will start operation in mid-2008. Mitsubishi is also planning to build a new plant in Beijing China, starting operation also in 2008, with local firm China Petroleum & Chemical Corp at an investment of 22 billion yen. The plant will initially produce PC resin for domestic consumption and could later be expanded to meet demand from other Asian nations. A total of 47 billion yen will be invested by the company in Japan and China to expand production of polycarbonate resins, in a bid to boost its market share in Asia to approx 30% from the current 20%.
