Mitsubishi plans to expand polycarbonate capacity in Asia

18-Apr-07
Mitsubishi Chemical Corp has plans for substantial increase in polycarbonate capacity in Japan and China. A project that was mulled in late 2005, regarding a joint venture with a subsidiary of the state-owned Chinese petrochemicals giant Sinopec to produce PC in the Beijing Yanshan district, seems to be taking shape now. Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical will hold 40% stake in the JV and MCC will hold 55% of the project, to be built at an investment outlay of US$ 190 mln. The plants with capacity to produce 60,000 tpa of PC and 100,000 tpa of bisphenol-A are estimated to start in H2-2008.
