Naphtha-dependent Dabhol to switch to LNG in Q3

17-Apr-07
Petronet LNG Ltd anticipated acquiring 13 more spot cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for the Dabhol power plant. The anticipated switch to LNG in Q3 may liberate extra exports of naphtha to Asian petrochemical manufacturers that are highly stretched for naphtha supplies. Petronet has bought 350,000 tonnes of LNG this year for Dabhol, at US$7.5-8.5 per million British thermal units, but has been diverting the gas to other customers because of the pipeline delays to the plant. This switch means naphtha imports for Dabhol are likely to continue for at least three more months pending the repairs to the pipeline linking Dahej LNG terminal to Dabhol. Petronet expects the 500 km pipeline, which will have a capacity of 20 million standard cubic metres a day, to be finished by the end of June.
