New ethane extraction facility planned to support petrochem expansion in Alberta

22-Mar-07
Nova Chemicals Corp. and Aux Sable Canada have announced plans to build a new ethane-extraction facility to support petrochemical expansion in Alberta at a plant to be located near Edmonton. The plant will provide NOVA with 40,000 bpd of ethane used as feedstocks to make polyethylene, maintaining and extending the Alberta advantage for production of ethylene for the long-term viability of the petrochemical industry in the province. Natural gas carrying the ethane would be supplied from the 1,750 km Alliance pipeline that runs from northeast British Columbia to Chicago. The ethane will be moved via pipeline to NOVA's Joffre site, which is home to the largest ethylene cracker in the world.
