Novamont biopolymers plant to be operational in 2007

Novamont has officially opened its plant at Terni, Italy to produce biopolymers from vegetable oil. The bioplastics, manufactured initially from corn starch, will be marketed under the existing names Mater-Bi and Origo-Bi. The facility, designed for an initial capacity of 40,000 tpa, will be operational by summer 2007. By 2008, Novamont plans to increase capacity by a further 20,000 tpa and extend feedstocks to other vegetable oils.
