Oil prices bounce back above US$72 as UN report considers sanctions

Iran has failed to comply with a deadline of Friday to halt uranium enrichment that makes fuel for civilian nuclear reactors and can also produce nuclear weapons material. A UN report on Iran's nuclear program considers sanctions or even military action against Iran- the world's fourth-biggest crude producer, triggering a spike in oil prices. New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in June closed at US$71.88. In London, the price of Brent North Sea crude for June delivery closed at US$72.02 a barrel.
