The US Energy Department data said crude and heating oil supplies had risen to above average levels for the time of year in the past week. Oil prices slipped as a US government report showed larger than expected rise in fuel inventories. US light sweet crude dipped to US$58.71 while in London Brent crude fell to US$56.21. Crude prices have been driven recently by demand in the north-eastern US. Oil prices spiked above US$59 a barrel earlier in the day amid fears that the storm could hit the US north-east over weekend.
