Oil prices showed their first upward movement in four days, rising marginally before release of a report by the U.S. Department of Energy. Light, sweet crude for January delivery rose 7 cents to $57.41 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. February Brent crude futures on London's ICE Futures exchange rose 19 cents to $56.30 a barrel.
The U.S. Department of Energy data release is expected to show a decline in crude and distillate stocks due to two weeks of snowstorms and arctic conditions in the northeastern U.S. Temperatures in the eastern U.S. are forecast to be milder as compared to the previous two weeks, estimated to ease crude and heating oil demand.
