Aromatic Oman, a joint venture between Oman Oil Company (60%), Oman Refinery Company (20%) and LG International Corporation (20%), will set commercial production of its Sohar Industrial Port (Oman) based plants underway by the end of 2009. The US$1.6 bln facility will have the world's largest grassroots paraxylene (PX) plant with a capacity of 814,000 mtpa and benzene production of 210,000 mtpa using naphtha raw material from the Sohar Refinery Company. The company will commission the new plant either in July or August 2010; however, the trial runs are expected to be carried out until the end of November.
