Plastic ban bill passed in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Assembly has passed the non-biodegradable garbage (control) bill, aimed at banning use of plastic bags. The bill has listed 16 items like electronic waste, nylon, polythene, polypropylene, thermacol, construction debris and biodegradable garbage or material. Violation of the provisions would attract penalty of Rs 5000 and Rs 10000 for first and second time offences and subsequently, imprisonment extending upto three months and penalty of upto Rs. 25000.
