Generally favorable economic conditions and higher income levels, leading to a rise in plastics product consumption and manufacturing output will provide a boost to plastics processing machines globally. Global demand for plastics processing machinery is forecast to expand 3.5% pa to US$18.8 billion in 2009. China will record the largest gains of any national market through 2009, accounting for one-fifth of total world demand.
The other high sales markets will be India and Russia and lower-volume markets such as Turkey, the Czech Republic and Iran. Demand in these and other developing countries will be stimulated by healthy economic growth, ongoing industrialization efforts and rising personal incomes. After a period of decline, processing equipment markets in USA and Japan are expected to show renewed strength and West European markets will accelerate through 2009.
Driven by rising world construction activity and growing demand for extruded products such as pipe and siding, extrusion equipment will outperform other product types.
Injection molding equipment will remain the most widely used type of plastics processing machinery in 2009.
