Israel's plastics and petrochemical sector has affected by the fighting on the country's northern borders. The incessant fighting and violence has led to suspension of production at the Carmel olefins and polyolefins site and shipments through the key port of Haifa have been severely interrupted for safety reasons. Haifa is the main port for petrochem exports from Israel, which is increasingly active in the European markets including the UK.
Carmel, a significant exporter of polymer, operates an ethylene cracker, a 165,000 tpa LDPE plant and a 200,000 tpa polypropylene plant. Later this year, it will start up a 250,000tpa PP unit at the site.
