Expansion of PTT Chemical Public Company Limited's ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol plant will be the country's first hazardous substances project to be scrutinised by Thailand’s newly-established Independent Commission on Environment and Health. Last month, the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (Onep) approved the environment and health impact assessment for the project to be located in Rayong's Muang district. But construction cannot proceed because the plant is among 20 projects that were deemed harmful to people's health and the environment by the Administrative Court last year.
