Qatar is all geared to set up a plastics waste recycling center considering a major development between the leading think-tanks in the nation. A MoU has been inked between Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) and Qatar University (QU) to establish a polymer centre which will focus on recycling plastic waste and producing eco-friendly plastic materials for domestic industrial purpose. Qatar University has joined hands with University of Sheffield, UK, to carry out combined research on various topics concerning polymers. Some of them include optimizing mechanical properties of blends from plastic waste, enhancing the thermal stability of recycled blends; and conducting life-cycle analysis of recycled polymers. The polymer recycling initiative is set to take off in June and is dubbed to be an important step in environment protection considering Qatar is one of the leading polymer producers in the Gulf.
