India's oil and petrochemical giant, Reliance Industries Ltd. plans a spend of US$5.7 billion (Rs2.5 billion) to make its Jamnagar plant the world's largest oil refinery by doubling the plant's capacity to 60 million tons. The benefits of the expanded capacity are expected to accrue from 2009-10. According high priority for crude oil exploration, an investment of Rs.76 billion has been announced for upstream and downstream projects in the petroleum sector.
