HDPE consumption in Western Europe increased by 3.5% last year. A report estimates growth in global HDPE consumption for the next 5 years. Growth has been pegged at over 3.5% pa over the next five years.
Pipes will be one of the most attractive sectors as HDPE seems to be replacing traditional materials such as steel and cast iron for gas and water pipes. Demand from the European HDPE film sector will remain fairly flat due to the growing quantity of imported film into Europe. Western European consumption accelerated to 3.5% in 2004 - following growth of 1.5% in 2003. However, the trend in central and eastern Europe indicated a decline as growth of nearly 10% in 2003 was followed by a 4% growth last year
