India's petrochemical major Reliance Industries (RIL) has shut down some plants at its 1000-acre Hazira facility due to heavy rains leading to floods in the Tapi river that flows adjacent to the complex. The Hazira complex is located near Surat and has naphtha cracker feeding downstream fibre intermediates, plastics and polyester plants. It includes a naphtha cracker, purified terephthalic acid and polypropylene plants. The decision has been taken on safety concerns, and the plants would remain closed till normalcy is restored.
