Brazil's Riopol has commenced polyethylene production with an initial production of 1000 tons and concluded its first polyethylene sale. This announcement came from Suzano Petroquimica, Riopol's major investor. Suzano Petroquimica S.A. is the Latin American leader in polypropylene and a joint controlling shareholder in Rio Polimeros S.A., Petroflex Industria e Comercio S.A. and Politeno Industria e Comercio S.A.
Production has commenced at the 270,000 tpa first line focused on linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). Riopol supplies polymer-grade propylene to Suzano Petroquimica's polypropylene unit and hydrogen to Petrobras' Refinary in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. The second line focused on HDPE, with a total production capacity of 270,000 tpa, is scheduled to start operating.
