Royal Dutch Shell halts Nigeria supplies : oil prices rise

23-Dec-05
Energy giant Royal Dutch Shell has declared "force majeure," in Nigeria. Shell has halted deliveries in major producer Nigeria after a pipeline explosion there reportedly killed at least eight people, and resulted in loss of 180,000 bpd of oil, causing oil prices to spike. New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in February, rose to US$58.70 per barrel on Nymex. In London, February Brent futures climbed to US$56.99 per barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.
