Sabic has declared force majeure on all polyethylene (PE) from its Geleen, Netherlands, with an annual capacity of 570,000 tons of LDPE and 320,000 tons of HDPE. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) at the site are currently running at 45% of capacity.
An unplanned outage at one of the 2 Geleen crackers last week has led to feedstock shortages. This ethylene shortage could continue till the outage ends, which could be almost 23-25 days. Sabic had announced Euro200/tonne hikes on all grades of PE last week, before the cracker outage. Will this outage further increase prices?
