Sabic endeavours to win participation in petrochem projects in China

06-Oct-05
SABIC - the global petrochemical giant's interest in Chinese cracker projects could gain momentum by guaranteeing crude oil or naphtha supplies to China from Saudi Arabia. Besides supplying naphtha feedstock, the kingdom can bring much-needed capital to help China achieve its petrochemical ambitions, which face a big oil and feedstock deficit. Supplies can be through the kingdom's oil and gas producer, Saudi Aramco. Sabic can help China replace old plants and technologies with large-scale petrochemicals investment. Sabic's current focus in China is on two cracker projects. A feasibility study is being conducted on one, and the second would be an investment at an existing site. Sabic has been evaluating participation in the1million tpa Dalian Shide cracker project in Liaoning province. The company is also mulling investment in the 300,000 tpa PEIC cracker expansion project in Liaoning for almost 2-3 years.
