Three new polyolefin plants planned in Saudi Arabia

05-Oct-05
Project Management and Development Company Ltd. (PMD) has selected Basell technologies for 2 new polypropylene plants and one low density polyethylene plant to be built in Saudi Arabia, scheduled to start-up in late 2008. The three new plants will be part of a new petrochemical complex in the industrial city of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The two Spheripol process polypropylene plants will have a combined capacity of 640,000 tpa, and the Lupotech T process LDPE plant will have a capacity of 270,000 tpa. The capacity expansions in Saudi Arabia are part of an unprecedented growth in polyolefins globally. Basell has already licensed more than 3.3 million tons in 2005. This follows a record setting year in 2004 when Basell sold licenses totalling more than 4 million tons of new capacity.
