Sinopec (China Petroleum & Chemical Corp.), Kuwait Petroleum Corp. and an overseas oil producer plan to build a US$9 billion refining and petrochemical plant in southern China’s Guangdong province. The project’s location may be moved to Zhanjiang from an earlier plan of Guangzhou. The proposed 300,000 bpd refinery and 1 mln tpa ethylene complex was previously planned for Guangzhou but will be shifted due to objections due to environmental concerns.
