Sipchem inks HPPE technology license agreement with ExxonMobil

23-May-09
Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem) has recently inked a Technology License Agreement with ExxonMobil Chemical Technology Licensing, LLC (USA) to use ExxonMobil`s tubular high pressure low density polyethylene process (HPPE) technology for Sipchem`s new world-scale ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) plant. The 200,000 mtpa plant will be built at Sipchem site in Jubail Industrial City, as part of the Sipchem Third Phase Projects. The EVA plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2013. By signing this license, Sipchem completed a major milestone toward the development of the newly announced third phase projects. The Ministry of Petroleum has allocated the required quantity of the ethane feedstock which will be cracked to ethylene by a SABIC affiliate. A tolling agreement for this purpose is in place. Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM), the second feedstock required for the production of EVA will be sourced from Sipchem's affiliate, International Vinyl Acetate Company (IVC) which is due to start production in September 2009. Currently Sipchem has five affiliated companies operating in Jubail to produce Methanol, Butanediol, Carbon Monoxide, Acetic Acid and Vinyl Acetate Monomer.
