Solvay Indupa, a subsidiary of Belgian chemical group Solvay, has concluded expansion project at an outlay of US$150 mln at its Santo André plant in Brazil's São Paulo state. The project has aided in increasing production capacity of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) to 300,000 tpa, chloralkali and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The new chloralkali unit based on membrane technology, and the consequent deactivation of the old unit based on mercury, will allow for a 30% reduction in electric power consumption.
