Thermoplastic polyurethane specialty producer Merquinsa (Spain) announced the launch of a new "Bio TPU by Merquinsa" label for consumer products - such as footwear, sport or electronics equipments, among others - based on high performance, renewable and recyclable resins. The "Bio TPU by Merquinsa" label meets strict performance standards while remaining eco-friendly for the plant says the company. This label will endorse Merquinsa's renewable TPU technologies' environmental benefits as per Frost & Sullivan's 2008 Green Excellence Award. By applying this seal of quality, selected branding partners will give priority to the use of high performance, renewable and recyclable raw materials in the manufacture of their products to contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Merquinsa's Bio TPU sold under Pearlthane® ECO brand for plastics and Pearlbond® ECO for adhesives, is renewable-sourced and a recyclable material. These TPU materials contain plant-based bio-content from 20% up to 90% according to ASTM D6866) with properties very similar to petroleum-based TPUs, offering outstanding flexibility, endurance and mitigating global warming. Merquinsa's renewable TPU solutions will be highlighted at NPE 2009, from June 22-26 in Chicago.
