Dow has announced temporary shutdown of it's Sconapor expanded polystyrene (EPS) plant at Schkopau in Germany, expected to last until the end of January 2007, is partly for scheduled maintenance and partly for upgradation to improve efficiency.
Dow has also started work on a new line in USA at LaPorte, near Houston. The plant will make Styrofoam at an existing site of the group, to meet demand generated by new federal regulations expected to take effect in 2010. Styrofoam brand insulation contribute to energy conservation which helps address the energy demand issues currently facing the US and at the same time lowers the cost to heat and cool buildings.
